Tiny Folk Costume exhibit

Petros Kaminiotis – Skopelitan ‘Mourko’ in center

Those with an interest in folk costumes and idiosyncratic hobbies ought to stop by the Vakratsa in the next few days. There you will see a collection of Playmobil characters dressed in historic Greek/ Balkan dress made by Petros Kaminiotis.
Besides being a folk dancer and a student of marketing and communication at the University of Athens, 20 year old Petros is handy with paper, markers and paint but clearly has a healthy fascination with costume.

“From paper towels I make their scarves, paper and cardboard their clothes, then I paint their shoes, I get fake flowers, I cut sequins for their jewelry, and stick them on with tweezers, I do not even have special tools.

It takes four or five days to complete a costume. Being that Petros is a folk dancer, he may be in town with his local group to dance in the festivities.

The dolls are on display at the Vakratsa Mansion (behind Ambrosia sweet shop on the port)
Monday 21 August – Saturday 03 September
Opening hours: 11.00-14.00 and 19.00-21.00
