Apparently these Finches can be seen all over Europe – but they are new to me. This is a breeding male and at photo time was calling repeatedly then turning his head to listen for an answer. None came as far as I could hear but then I’m not a bird. Whether this finch species is a mere visitor on a stopover or will summer in Skopelos is not certain. I rely upon the eyes and expertise of others for more information.
A special thanks to the Public Power Corporation (ΔΕΗ) for stringing power lines all over to give these critters a perch which is not covered in foliage. Lucky for me. It seems that breeding male birds will find a prominent isolated location like the top branch of a tree or this cable to perch and call. That’s show biz!
