Those who have damaskina plum trees might recognize these things – baby plums which, for some reason; low temperature, rain, wind, or other weirdness, are malformed and will never grow to be useful. In fact they will eventually drop from the tree on their own later in the season. However, to paraphrase Robert Redford, “All is (not) lost”.
A close examination indicates that there are some tiny and well shaped new plums emerging from later blossoms.
Around here these malformed plums are called, “Fouskes” or bubbles.
