Fresh water, get it while you can

The Ides of March 2017

Isabel passed along this photo taken yesterday morning at the port. A brief rain had left puddles of fresh water for these two male Mallards to sip. The ducks have been around for a few years, recouping their numbers after a “Bird Flu” scare culling some years ago. Among notables from that culling was the flock of geese which hung around Agnontas.

The photo below is of (maybe) the same ducks plus a female. The photo was taken just after the flood of September 2015. The location of a nest(s) is unknown (to me), but it must be somewhere inaccessible to cats and difficult for crows to bother.
