Giorgos Poulios at Efimerida Vories Sporades (link) tips us off that a new KTEO (vehicle inspection) facility is opening in Skaithos. The owner, Athanasios Sanidas, will accept for inspection unaccompanied vehicles or motorbikes sent by ferry from Skopelos to Skiathos. Just make an appointment and send the car, pay the fees, and they’ll send it back on the next boat.
According to the announcement in Vories Sporades newspaper – information is available via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by phone (24270-23800). Open every day M-F 08:30 – 16:30 and Saturday from (09:00 – 14:00). There is no website with information specifically for this private inspection station. There is a website for the KTEO in Corfu which translates nicely via a translating service. The general information is probably the same. When there was a KTEO in Skopelos one summer many years ago, the procedure was make the appointment, go to the tax office to pay, and return for the appointment. Whether or not the procedure has been streamlined in Skiathos we can’t tell. The cost was €50.
If you plan on taking your car to the mainland for a tour it is a good idea to have it inspected first or immediately upon arrival. The fines for not having the current sticker are steep.
