Fireplace Psychology

As many are aware, it has been cold in Skopelos this past month. About 3.8ºC colder than the average for January 2016 (that’s 6.7º for you Fahrenheit buffs). The central heating has been on a lot during daytime hours. To improve our lot we have had our fireplace aglow from dawn to bedtime. Physically the fire doesn’t help much, standing less than a meter from the hearth might warm your knees some, though the room “feels” warmer with a fire blazing. Red hot embers don’t do it – there has to be flame. Luckily for comfort and mental health there is a lot of wood around, some ready to be burned.

Here is the rundown for January 2017..
