The gulet cruiser “Black Sea” is back. Built in the style of the famous Turkish gulets of Bodrum and Marmaris, the “Black Sea” is beautiful to see.

Skopelos and Bodrum have something in common other than the ship building tradition of both ports. On the night of September 22-23, 2015 Bodrum also suffered a devastating flood after hours of heavy rain.

A big difference between the two places is that Bodrum’s population is about 36,000 (full time residents) and a substantial tourist population as well. This may account for the reported 8 serious injuries from the Bodrum flood. The videos (below) of automobiles being swept down the city’s streets are eerily familiar.

Back to the “Black Sea”. This Bodrum built wooden boat is from a basic design which is at least 500 years old. The tradition of wooden gulet building is, along with tourism, a major industry in Bodrum.
Here is a 8 minute commercial video about the wooden boat industry in Bodrum.
