Sir, could you please move your periptero from the sidewalk?

A Volos story.

The Taxydromos (link) newspaper reported that a couple of Peripteros were removed by the city from the sidewalks of Volos. The pictures below show that both had been blocking the walkway for a long time. It was difficult for people walking (or riding bicycles!) to squeeze through and impossible for the disabled to pass.

A good move by the city. Those readers who have walked the streets of Volos must be familiar with one of these peripteros located at the busy corner of Ermou and K. Kartali streets. The second was located a distance away from the city center and, though unused, was truly a masterpiece of obstruction.

Outside the city center but a very tight squeeze nonetheless.

Another well known sidewalk blocker is located on busy Iasonos (at Ag. Nikolaou) and its placement forces pedestrians from the footpath onto the pavement and into the famous Volos “take no prisoners” traffic. Will this be the next to go?
