Trata today

Those wandering the village this afternoon might catch to newly traditional aroma of burning Polystyrene. Wafting in dark clouds, the stench signifies the departure of one of the many “Trata” which will be paraded through the town. The ramshackle ships will be hauled by drunken youth, garbed appropriately for the occasion, singing and swearing in honor of Dionysos and welcoming the god who brings with him Springtime.
It’s been going on for a long, long time.

  1. This will usually kick-off around 2 pm or so, depending upon factors such as physical and spiritual readiness. If you are not sure where the procession is, listen for the clamor or follow the trail of bits and pieces of Trata which fallen from the ship as they are carried or dragged through the streets.
