On the Road

I am traveling these next few weeks and so posting will be sparse. Since I will be away from Skopelos I will try to fill in with images painted in Skopelos that I already have.

Here’s one which plays around with the idea of positive and negative shapes. Usually the shape in the middle of a simple composition is the positive shape or the subject. Sometimes the space around the subject – which is a necessary component of the picture – starts to dominate. Here immediately at first view, the green plant shape shows as the subject, but after a while the blue becomes interesting in and of itself. In my eye, the blue is the more interesting and elusive shape. But the blue doesn’t exist without the green. They are absolutely necessary to one another. C’est la vie.
